Life of a new hire

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a new hire at Adthena? In this edition of our ‘Meet the Team’ blog series, we’re taking you behind the scenes to introduce one of our newest team members, Benedikt Kolbert.

Gina Marino chats with Benedikt about his journey through his first 30 days on the job, giving you an inside look at his experiences, challenges, and highlights as a new Adthenian.

1. Tell us about yourself

I started my career in Revenue Operations in 2017 as a good first step to gain experience, even though I didn’t fully understand what RevOps or SalesOps entailed at the time. Since then, the RevOps function has grown significantly and I was able to gain experience across a few different companies and see it evolve. Most recently, I moved to Dublin, Ireland during the pandemic to work at Asana. After 2 years in Dublin, I moved to Spain, initially joining Twilio remotely, and now Adthena.

2. What drew you to join Adthena?

My entire career has been in RevOps, so I knew I enjoyed this type of role. After having worked at companies of various sizes, I wanted to take some time off to reflect on which types of environments I preferred. I realized that I most enjoyed working in a tight-knit team, a strong culture, and where I still have the ability to build things from the ground up. When I saw the Sales Analyst role at Adthena, I applied. As I started the interview process, met potential colleagues, and learnt more about the company, I started to realize it was exactly what I was looking for.

3. Can you share a bit about your previous experiences and how they’ve prepared you for this role?

I began my career as an analyst in 2017, focusing on the DACH region and learning how a sales organization operates and its key challenges. My next role expanded to cover the entire EMEA region at a hyper-growth company, where I had to manage more stakeholders, navigate complex projects, and adapt to a faster pace. This experience taught me the importance of prioritization and staying focused on key outcomes. Now, as the sole sales analyst at Adthena, I’m applying everything I’ve learned from past roles and colleagues, making it a highly rewarding experience.

4. What did you get up to in your first 30 days?

As an analyst, my objective is to generate insights that positively impact the company by driving sales, increasing efficiency, or reducing costs. During my first few weeks, I focused on understanding the team’s processes and data, meeting with cross-functional colleagues to learn how they measure success and use data. With this knowledge, I began building a centralized “metrics library,” a collection of key insights and KPIs relevant to our sales funnel.

5. What was your favorite highlight of your first month?

One of the highlights of my onboarding experience was traveling to London to meet my manager and some of the UK team members in person! We spent a day in the London office together, went out for drinks, and attended a Polo event. I’d never watched Polo live, so this was a really unique experience.

6. If you could have any superpower to help you with your job, what would it be and why?

Knowing a project’s impact before starting would be invaluable. Prioritization in RevOps is crucial since it’s a cross-functional role with countless potential projects. While some prioritization is straightforward, it can be challenging when multiple interesting projects arise with unclear outcomes. In these cases, knowing the impact beforehand would save significant time and effort.

7. How do you unwind after a busy day of crunching numbers?

I live in sunny Sevilla, Spain, where I love taking long evening walks and soaking in the buzz of the city. My girlfriend and I also enjoy exploring new restaurants – Sevilla has so many great options, so let me know if you need any recommendations!

8. Any top tips for new Adthenians coming onboard?

Dedicate time to reflect on and internalize the intro materials and sessions. The ramp time is pretty quick and you’ll soon be involved in projects. Using those initial days and weeks to understand what each team does, what the vision of the company is, and who the go-to people are for certain topics can be helpful for when you start working on projects.
